As Aivan continues to grow its Boats & Yachts team, Navia, we’re looking to expand our talented team with a skilled Designer who combines creative vision with solid engineering insight in boat production. This is a unique opportunity to join our Helsinki-based studio and contribute to the development of premium leisure crafts.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in the design process. You will be part of a team in charge of the overall design of leisure crafts from pre-concept up to follow-up of construction, making sure that the concept and the visual design of the resulting product is feasible from technical and manufacturing perspectives.
We’re looking for a designer with 3-5+ years of hands-on experience, ideally from a shipyard’s in-house design team or a design studio with a strong track record of producing manufacturable, production-ready vessels. We value agility and adaptability and are looking for a designer with a curious mindset who is open to learning and adopting new ways of working. Someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is open to evolving practices and new technologies in the field of naval design.
 
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Collaborating with our in-house Naval Architecture team to design boats and yachts from initial concept sketches to production-ready solutions
Tackling complex design challenges commonly found in boat design alongside a multidisciplinary team of skilled professionals
Creating detailed 2D and 3D drawings for both concept and production stages, including e.g. FRP molds and milling files
Creating project documentation and presentations
Designing and sourcing components for boat projects
Creating general arrangements / layouts in close cooperation with the Design team
Selecting and placing of standard components and main equipment together with our in-house team of naval architects
Fast communication of ideas through hand sketching or 3D visuals
 
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
 
Intermediate to senior-level expertise in boat/yacht design or related fields such as transportation
Solid understanding of a boat construction and production processes
Basic understanding & knowledge of mechanical engineering and moving parts 
Proficiency in rapid concept development and production file creation using 3D modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Rhino)
Competency in using project documentation, presentation, and management tools (e.g. MS Office, iWork, Google Workspace, Adobe CC)
Open-minded and eager to learn new skills
Good spoken and written English

Rendering skills
